However, if we want European varieties, we have to take the risk. American breeders have also given us diseased tubers, so it depends on your risk tolerance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe offer Dutch tubers at a lower price than what other sellers do because we don't think that it is right to pay full price for something that can't be guaranteed to be right. Once we assume the risk, we charge a higher price.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo promote transparency, clarity and ethical growing, we are introducing a new classification system for dahlias on the website. It wil take time to add it to our entire dahlia catalogue but we hope that it helps people to understand risk and to combat shops that that are selling unverified cuttings off Dutch tubers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach dahlia variety is tagged with a generation that indicates how long we have grown it. It is available in the drop down menu at the top of the 2027 dahlia page, under filters.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e1st Generation - imported from Europe, have not grown it. Higher risk of gall.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e2nd Generation - we have grown it for 1 year. Includes both imports and varieties from North America. Lower risk for gall.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e3rd Generation - we have grown it for 2 years. Low risk for gall. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e4th Generation - we have grown it for 3 years plus.
